Thank you to anadancer for nominating me. I’ve felt invisible most of my life like I’m in the back row of the theater looking out on everyone else. When people acknowledge my presence it used to catch me by surprise, it still does in some ways. However, now I also get a warm feeling like having coffee with a friend you haven’t had for a while.
Here are my answers to her questions:
1. What’s the best place you’ve seen in the world and why?
I have two answers for that. The most exotic place was Puerto Galera in the Philippines (location). It has since turned into a resort town but when I was there was a couple of bamboo huts to stay in; the more expensive one meant that there was a ceiling fan, lol. The shower was a 50 gallon drum of water, a cup for dipping and room with a drain in the middle. However, there was an amazing little community and snorkeling was indescribable. I remember having lunch at an adorable little place that was run by this gracious South African man. There was no one else there so got to have a great conversation with him. On one occasion we hired a bonca boat (image) driver who took us to a deserted beach and cooked fish and veggies over a fire that he built while we snorkeled and carried on. The reason I am giving two answers is that I was eating disordered and unable to fully feel the amazingness of that experience.
This is the second one: I grew up in California in driving distance of a majestic redwood forest, Big Basin (redwoods) (waterfall) (massive tree), google image views since I had no camera at the time. During college I use to hike up to the top of the mountain where that was a large boulder that sat above the redwoods. I sat there and did homework. In the distance you could see the pacific ocean (boulder) (view). I felt that experience 100% so would have to say that the memory of that experience supersedes all others.
2. What’s your happiest childhood memory?
Definitely the three weeks every summer when we, myself and all my cousins, went to my aunts horse ranch. I think my aunt was grateful for the free labor, lol. We went riding often and sometimes even at night under a full moon. It is probably why I jumped on the opportunity to volunteer at the ranch I’m currently at.
3. Describe yourself in 3 words.
generous (in spirit), efficient, impulsive
4. Describe your ideal self care day.
Start the morning with a quick house tidying. This gives me a feeling of control and my environment greatly effects my sense of wellbeing. After some morning writing, sit out on the patio with tea or lemonade and read. The rest of the day watch some favorite sci fi movies, crochet or do art: watercolor, pastels, etc.
I do love nature so it would seem natural to put walking in the woods and so forth as self care but it wouldn’t be. Going outside is sensory overload, unless it is a moonless night.
5. Where did the name for your blog come from?
Honestly I didn’t give it much thought. I like dragonflies… yeah, that’s about it. It has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?
Some questions for you:
- What makes you roll your eyes every time you hear it?
- What movie or TV show had the most profound effect on you and why?
- What are you interested in that most people aren’t?
- When did something start off badly for you but in the end, it was great?
- What are you curious about?
- Would you rather live in the country or the city? Why?
- What brings you comfort and calm?
- If you are going to bury a time capsule, what would you put in it?
- Is there a story behind the name of your blog?
